A newly renovated 3 double bedroom gite, each with private bathroom set in a beautiful location.
Fully equipped modern kitchen with oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge / freezer. Crockery, cutlery, glasses, cookware, serving dishes etc. provided and even baking items should you wish to produce something for a special occasion!
Large open plan lounge and dining area with two sofas and an armchair set around a wooden coffee table and a lovely glass dining table with quality leather chairs. A bluetooth speaker is provided, as well as plenty of boardgames in the sideboard in case of inclement weather. Beautiful views through the patio door over one of the two ponds on the property and out of the side windows to the other pond on one side and the open fields on the other.
The atrium area provides access to a toilet and sink, the staircase and a bookcase housing books for visitors to enjoy.
On the first floor are two bedrooms.
The first bedroom is a very large bedroom with double bed and bedside tables, three chest-of-drawers, a dressing table, stool and mirror, a mirrored wardrobe with hangers, slippers and a blanket, and two armchairs with a coffee table. The large double aspect windows mean the room is lovely and light with great views. The private ensuite has a modern shower with both a rain shower head and handheld shower attachment. A sink on top of a drawer unit containing a hairdryer, a toilet and a heated towel rail complete the room.
The second bedroom is a standard size room with double bed and bedside cupboards. A mirrored wardrobe with 4 drawers and a shelf, with hangers, slippers and a blanket is in the room. There is a wooden vanity shelf opposite the bed with a mirror. The private ensuite has a modern shower with both a rain shower head and handheld shower attachment. A sink on top of a drawer unit containing a hairdryer, a toilet and a heated towel rail complete the room.
A second staircase leads from the first floor to the top floor suite.
The top floor suite is in two parts. On entering the bedroom area, there is a double bed with bedside tables, a chair and a storage unit with a small vanity mirror. Through an archway is the 'dressing' area, with a quality double bed settee, coffee table, additional storage units, stool, small vanity mirror and an inbuilt mirrored wardrobe in which can be found slippers, hangers and a blanket. Access to the private ensuite which has a modern shower with a handheld shower attachment. A sink on top of a drawer unit containing a hairdryer, a toilet, a table unit and a heated towel rail complete the room. The bedroom and dressing room have velux windows with blackout window blinds and a small window looking out of the front of the property.
Outside there is a terrace with a table and chairs and a BBQ. An additional wooden table is set on the grass area near the silver birch tree and the pond. Guests have access to all of the space to the front of the property as well as to the front of the outbuildings, extending along the length of the small 'canal'. (note - part of this area is often left wild to encourage butterflies, bees and other wildlife). There are two lovely ponds to the front of the property, where the owners' muscovy ducks. Peggy and Jenny, can often be seen wandering. Whilst tame we would ask guests not to approach them unless we are there due to concerns during hunting season.
Behind the gite is the owner's accommodation. The owners will be onsite in the unlikely event that an issue is encountered, and have their own private space to the back of the property, where their hens live and produce beautiful, and sought after eggs. Although the driveway will be shared, the owners remain discreate and will not come into the areas which can be accessed by the gite (other than on rare occasions to retrieve an errant duck!)
The gite is set in a beautiful area rural, although only 3km from Bruyeres. Although a small town, Bruyeres hosts 4 supermarkets (Leclerc, Intermarche, Lidl and Aldi) and has a number of restaurants and bars. A boulangerie is a 20 minute walk away, through the village of Champ-le-Duc and past the magnificent church, whose bells can be heard in the morning and evening. Guided walks and mountain bike rides can be found in the forest about a 1km from the gite. The gite sits about half way between Epinal, the administrative town in the Vosges, and Geradmer, a key tourist hotspot, with its beautiful lake to enjoy in summer, and ski slopes in winter. Both towns can be reached within about 20 minutes.
The area is a haven for birds and other wildlife. It's not unusual to hear more than 20 different types of bird each morning. During the season, fishing can be undertaken in the nearby Vologne river (with a licence). The roads in the surrounding area are generally very quite and of good quality and are ideal for anyone wishing to undertake road cycling. More challenging hills can be found not too far away for the more seasoned cyclists! The area is also a haven for motorcyclists, with the well surfaced roads and hairpin bends. Alsace, and the wine route is about an hour away, and no visit would be complete without a stop in Colmar and / or the villages of Riquewihr and Ribeauville which are within the top 10 most beautiful villages in France. Lake Longemer is a 30 minute drive away and offers great swimming opportunities in a beautiful setting. For those preferring to swim indoors, Bruyeres has its own pool. A number of great restaurants can be found in the nearby areas, many offering a midday plat de jour for very good value. We would be happy to share our recommendations with you.
The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 6 adults. For a single couple using just one bedroom a discount will be offered. Unfortunately, due to the risks associated with the number of bodies of water on the property, we cannot accept children and would not recommend the accommodation for any babies who have started to crawl on account of the non child friendly staircase. Infants under 6 months are welcome, and we can provide a travel cot (without bed linens) if required. Whilst we are lovers of animals, unfortunately we do not accept pets.
Whilst the Gite is fully self catering, provision of croissants and bread in the morning and some evening meals can be arranged. Other opportunities that could be organised on site include a basic wine tasting experience in the vaulted cave, an introduction to beekeeping (at the time of writing, the owners have 6 hives in their orchard area), guided road and mountain bike rides (for all abilities - Note : both classic and electric mountain bikes can be hired from the Tourist Information Office in Bruyeres) and guided motorbike rides. Depending on the route and length of the ride, the guests could be met half way with a picnic lunch if they wished. With hens on site, fresh eggs are available to purchase (subject to availability), as well as apple juice from the fruit in our orchard, honey from our bees and other seasonal fruits.
With quality accommodation, set in a beautiful and peaceful location, where good food and wines can be easily found, the ability to be as active or relaxed as you might want and with virtually no light pollution where you can kick back and watch the stars in the evening after a BBQ on the terrace, what more is there to love? We relocated from the UK a number of years ago and have not regretted a single moment. Every day we get to enjoy the views, the peace and tranquility, too often the nice wines and cheese (!) and realise just how lucky we are, and having finally finished the renovations, we now have the opportunity of sharing that experience with you.
