Just over one mile south of the cottage is Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, a salt marsh with scenic hiking trails and an opportunity for bird watching. Downtown Kennebunkport is only two-and-a-half miles north and is home to several restaurants, shops, and a charming marina. There is also a trolley stop for the Shoreline Explorer in front of Shorelands that travels up and down the coastal communities including Wells, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, York, and Sanford!
